Charcuterie Board / Grazing Table

“Brotzeit”

“Brotzeit” literally translates to “bread time”

It refers to a traditional German snack, often enjoyed in the morning or as a light evening meal. It’s always served cold and typically includes hearty bread with various toppings. Here’s a collection of classic toppings you can choose from for your everyday cold dinner or a Bavarian-themed buffet.

Meat:

  • beef Meatballs

  • pork or veal Schnitzel

  • “Leberkäse” whole loaf or sliced (German butcher)

  • dry-cured ham “Schwarzwälder Schinken” (German butcher)

  • Sausages like “Wiener”, “Bratwurst” or “Landjäger” = semi-dried sausage (German butcher)

Cheese:

  • cheese with grapes: thinly sliced Swiss cheese, Appenzeller, Gruyere, Limburger (hard to get and might not be everyones’ favorite :D ) … whatever nice cheese you can get at your store or market

  • tomato & mozzarella with balsamic cream

Cheese and other Spreads:

  • Obatzda (Bavarian brie spread, recipe see collection)

  • Feta tomato spread (recipe see collection)

  • Hummus

  • high quality butter with at least 82% butterfat like Kerrygold

Veggies:

  • veggie sticks from carrots, cucumber, celery, mini bell pepper with self-made yoghurt dip

  • cherry tomatoes

  • radish

  • hard boiled eggs

  • pickles

Of course, the main star of any Brotzeit is the bread! These toppings pair beautifully with a fresh Classic Sourdough or Farmer’s Sourdough loaf. And needless to say, pretzels — especially big Oktoberfest pretzels — are always a true Brotzeit highlight!
